Description

The Name Tags component allows the players to quickly identify nearby friendly players using floating name tags. The name tags, which show unit names and group IDs, only work within a defined distance (this can be modified by the mission maker). Players can toggle the name tags on and off by pressing their TeamSwitch key (default: T).

Required files

All the code associated with this component is found in:

  • description.ext
  • init.sqf
  • f\common\f_recog\*.*

How to activate

Open the file description.ext and look for the code segment entitled:

// F2 - Name Tags

Edit the following lines, removing the // at the start of each line:

// #include "f\common\f_recog\recogOverlay.hpp"

Open the file init.sqf and look for the code segment entitled:

// F2 - Name Tags

Edit the following lines, removing the // at the start of each line:

// [] execVM "f\common\f_recog\recog_init.sqf";

How to use

Toggle name tags on/off

Players must use their TeamSwitch key (default: T) to enable or disable recognition.

Default recognition distance

By default the recognition distance is 20 meters. For units more than 20 meters from the player the name tags disappear.

Changing the recognition distance

Open the file f\common\f_recog\recog_init.sqf and look for the following line:

[20, 0.75, 0.5] execVM "f\common\f_recog\setupRecognize.sqf";

Change the first parameter (20) to your desired distance.

Tips

  • Name tags are only displayed for units on the same side as the player (not just same faction).
  • There is a known issue with name tags being displayed while looking at the map - just toggle them on/off if they get in the way.
